Creature of the Week: The Death Angels
The Death Angels from A Quiet Place may be blind to their surroundings, but that does not make them any less of a threat. These creatures depend fully on their sense of hearing to “hunt.” Their hearing is so sharp, they can hear a bucket dropping from miles away. In addition to this, they are extremely fast, covering ground like nothing, hard armor for skin, and razor-sharp claws. They are creatures from another world, arriving on Earth through a meteorite, they made short work of a town in mere days. Though they do have a weakness. Their hearing may be a superpower; however, it is also their downfall. So far, humans have only found two ways to kill them. Death Angels are extremely sensitive to high pitched frequencies, usually those of feedback from radio sources, and water. Due to having thick and armored skin, it weighs them down, causing them to drown. The way of using the feedback is interesting, because they have plates on their faces that lift (allowing them to pinpoint their prey), the feedback forces these plates to open. In doing this, they reveal the softer flesh, which leaves them vulnerable to human weapons. The director of the movies, John Krasinski, offered a brief explanation of where these creatures are from. They come from a world with much harsher conditions than Earth and stronger gravity, which caused them to adapt and rely on echolocation. Multiple times throughout the film, they made sharp clicking sounds as they sought out their prey. Overall, these creatures have a chilling design and a horrifying way to survive.
